Medication Management & Storage for Diverse Needs – Stiftung Schloss Turbenthal, Village for the Deaf

The Village for the Deaf has been serving the community for over 100 years. It is a place to live, work, and socialize – especially for people with hearing impairments. The village offers a wide range of services, from single rooms with private bathrooms to residence in the castle or shared housing. The same diversity applies to support, training, and recreational opportunities. The focus is always on the individual. The type of health-related support or services needed depends on each client. Therefore, the demands on the healthcare team vary greatly and require a well-structured organization – both internally and in terms of medication management.

Ms. Stephanie Pfäffli, Head of the Healthcare Team, has thoroughly reviewed the medication process. As part of a comprehensive concept to optimize workflows in healthcare services, a new space concept was developed. Previously, the pharmacy was split into two small rooms, which was not ideal for establishing an efficient workflow. The newly assigned room for storing and preparing medications not only offers more space but is also equipped with air conditioning for proper and regulation-compliant storage.

The room features two cabinet walls: on one side, as-needed medications are stored; on the other side, in addition to various supplies, pre-prepared medications for up to one week are kept. The healthcare team must be able to accommodate different handling preferences and is equipped with various medication dispensers, weekly systems, and other aids.

Thanks to expert consultation from Wiegand AG, an efficient space concept was developed with ample storage for medications, aids, and consumables. For Stephanie Pfäffli, the new medication room is just one milestone in the ongoing process optimization.
